Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, Asia’s richest businessman. His wealth, based in petrochemicals, oil, and gas, has made him a business icon all over India and the world. Mr. Ambani is the chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). The company is a Fortune Global 500 company and India’s most valuable company by its market value. He is the largest shareholder of RIL, which is almost 42 percent.

Founder of Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani’s first child Mukesh Ambani born in Aden, Yemen on April 19, 1957. His younger brother Anil Ambani is another businessman, chairman of Reliance Group. Ambani achieved a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Bombay (now the University of Mumbai). Then he pursued his post-graduation in business administration from Stanford University.

After taking control over Reliance Industries Limited, Ambani gained control of Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited. Under his direction, the company became world’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, India, which had the capacity to produce 660,000 barrels per day (33 million tons per year).

Ambani announced in 2013, the chance of a “collaborative venture” with Bharti Airtel in setting up digital infrastructure for the 4G network in India. He invested Rs. 1.8 trillion across various business sectors and began 4G broadband services in 2015. A smartphone brand named LYF was launched by Ambani-led Jio. It was India’s third largest selling mobile phone brand.

The release of the service, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, commonly known as Jio was a success and Reliance’s shares increased. Mukesh Ambani has declared the country’s largest bonus issue in India which was the bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1. He also announced the Jio Phone at an effective price of ₹0. By the leadership of Mukesh, the company’s hold in the mining and gas sector increasing rapidly. The company recorded employing more than 85,000 employees in 2012. 5% of the total government tax revenue in India comes from Reliance industries.

In 2013, Reliance has created world’s biggest oil refinery company and India has gained twenty-third positions among the world’s oil producing countries. With Mukesh Ambani’s far-reaching visionary, Reliance has made into a prospering name in the world of oil and fuel. The Reliance Company has started 700 food shops in India. Mr. Ambani estimates, by these shops, money can be transported towards the distant areas of India from the cities. Already in some of the specific zones of India, farmers have become more productive by these grocery shops of Reliance.

In the year of 2004, he received the recognition of one of the world’s most respected business leaders from professional-services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Mumbai based business magnet Ambani’s personal wealth was enough to finance the operations of the Indian federal government for 20 days, estimated by Bloomberg’s “Robin Hood Index”. After Ambani’s purchase of the IPL cricket team Mumbai Indians for $111.9 million in 2008, he was titled “The World’s Richest Sports Team Owner”.

His notable other awards are, Businessman of The Year Award (2010) from Financial Chronicle, Global Leadership Award from the Business Council for International Understanding, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst & Young India, Global Vision Award at The Awards Dinner from Asia Society, Business Leader of the Year (2010) from NDTV India, Global Leadership Award from Business Council for International Understanding. Mr. Ambani tied the knot with Nita Ambani, an entrepreneur who founded Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Together they have two sons; Anant and Akash, and a daughter, Isha. Mukesh Ambani and his family live in Mubai at Antilia, the most expensive residence in the world at the time it was built.
